Osasuna Calls 22 Players for Season Finale Against Getafe
Osasuna (9-7-12, 34 points) lost to Real Sociedad (10-8-10, 38 points) 3-1 at Anoeta on Sunday night. Forward Víctor Muñoz scored a late second-half goal for Osasuna, but it was not enough to overcome a brace from Real Sociedad midfielder Gonçalo Guedes and a penalty by forward Mikel Oyarzabal.
Osasuna pressed forward early in the first half and created two scoring chances by the 15th minute. Defender Valentín Rosier fired a shot from outside the box, but Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro pushed it away for a corner kick. Minutes later, defender Javi Galán crossed into the box, where Muñoz's header hit the post.
As the match progressed, Real Sociedad gained control and pushed Osasuna back. Midfielder Beñat Turrientes forced a save from Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera with a shot from distance. In the 22nd minute, Real Sociedad was awarded a penalty after a handball in the box. Oyarzabal converted from the spot to put the home team ahead. Six minutes later, Guedes doubled the lead with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. In first-half stoppage time, Osasuna midfielder Aimar nearly cut the deficit, but Remiro made a diving save.
Osasuna opened the second half with Muñoz forcing Remiro into a save from outside the box, but Real Sociedad responded quickly as Guedes scored his second goal of the match.
A few minutes later, Osasuna midfielder Iker Muñoz connected with a header following a corner kick, but Brais Méndez cleared it off the line for Real Sociedad, and was followed by a shot from forward Ante Budimir that barely missed the target. The hosts controlled much of the remainder, though Muñoz eventually scored for Osasuna after a pass from forward Kike Barja. Despite continued pressure from Los Rojillos, Real Sociedad’s defense held firm.
Osasuna’s next match is Saturday, March 21, at El Sadar against Girona. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. GMT, 1:30 p.m. ET).
Minutes: 97min.
